Water Smart Landscape

water-efficient landscapingThe Water Smart Landscape Rebate Program is the result of a five-year study by the Southern Nevada Water Authority. The study documented substantial water use reductions by converting turf grass to xeric and/or drought-tolerant plant material. The study found that residents in southern Nevada annually applied an average of 73 gallons of water per square foot to turf, but just 17.2 gallons annually per square foot after converting turf to “water smart” landscape plantings.

Through this program, more than 8,000 property owners have converted more than 28 million square feet of ornamental lawn to water-efficient landscaping within city limits. These conversions collectively conserve more than 1.5 billion gallons of water annually.
