Sept. 16, 2013

I invite you to join Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman, officials from the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT)  and me to commemorate the start of work to remove the F Street wall at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, on F Street just north of U.S. 95. Officials and residents will be given pieces of the wall and/or pieces from the worksite that have been removed prior to the event to commemorate the occasion. Officials and residents also will have the opportunity to strike a wall panel to signify the official start of the wall coming down.

On Sept. 18, Las Vegas Paving, the project contractor, will begin removing portions of the F Street wall. Work will consist of removing the wall face and digging underneath the new bridge structure to allow the bridge to flex with traffic. This is another important milestone for the project because it signifies the start of work to remove the wall, which will take place over the remaining months of the project. The remaining phases of the project will commence as follows:

  • November 2013, Phase 3 – Construction of the southbound portion of the F Street Bridge.
  • February 2014, Phase 4 – Construction of the southbound I-15- to-I-515 structure, D Street on-ramp over F Street and a storm drain tie-in.
  • August 2014, Phase 5 – Replacement of barrier rail between southbound I-15/I-515 lanes.
  • August 2014, Phase 7– Construction of F Street under I-15 and a portion of F-D Connector Roadway.

Phase 6, which includes improving pavement, curbs, gutters, traffic signals and sidewalks on F Street, began in June and is expected to be complete by September 2014. See the news release for more details.

The Las Vegas City Council will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, located at 495 S. Main St. Agenda items of particular interest to Ward 5 residents can be found here. The complete agenda is available here. Please join me for the council meeting if your schedule allows.
