April 12, 2012

I hope you are enjoying our glorious spring weather!  I want to remind you that the deadline to apply for Southern Nevada Hispanic Employment Program 2012 scholarships is April 15.  Applications and information are available at www.snhep.org/.

I encourage you to review the agenda items of particular interest to Ward 5 residents before the April 18 Redevelopment Agency and City Council meetings.  Participate in the meetings in Council Chambers at 495 S. Main St. or watch them live on television on KCLV-TV Cable Channel 2 or via the Internet at www.kclv.tv. Go online to view the complete agenda for both meetings.

The city of Las Vegas has been selected by Wells Fargo to be the fourth city to host the "NeighborhoodLIFT" program. In Las Vegas, this will include a five-year goal of $1 billion in mortgage purchase loans by Wells Fargo, and a $9 million investment the bank is making this year for down payment assistance grants and homebuyer support programs that help consumers achieve successful, sustainable home ownership.

Residents are invited to attend the NeighborhoodLIFT program May 4 and 5, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the Riviera Hotel & Casino Royale Pavilion, where they can apply for Wells Fargo-funded down payment assistance grants and homebuyer support programs. Admission and parking will be free. At the event, prospective homebuyers can participate in affordable home tours of residential properties for sale in the city of Las Vegas and will be able to apply for down payment assistance grants of up to $15,000 administered by NeighborWorks America affiliate Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada through grants from the Wells Fargo Foundation.

Requirements for the NeighborhoodLIFT program down payment assistance grants include income and owner-occupied home specifications, including not exceeding 120 percent of local median income; an eight-hour homebuyer education session with the approved NeighborWorks America affiliate; a commitment to stay in the home for five years; and qualification for a first mortgage on the property. Representatives from Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada and the city of Las Vegas will be on site to help with the processing of applications for grants and other services.

See the English-language flier or Spanish-language flier for more information. Prospective homebuyers can learn more details, see a list of what to bring, and register to attend the events at www.neighborhoodlink.com/.
