For Your Next Visit To Floyd Lamb Park

Here are some things you can do on your return visit to the park:

  1. Animal Farm: Visit the animals that live in the park and make a list of them for your journal. Write something about each one and draw a picture of each one.
  2. Archaeology: Research and describe some of the information from the past that has been found at this site.
  3. Architecture: Build your own model of what you think a park should contain for persons who live in Las Vegas. Use paper or elements found in nature to create your park.
  4. Arts: Tell a story about the park using pictures that you drew while visiting the park.

  6. Culture: Go to a festival, celebration or other event being held at the park and report on the day’s happenings.

  8. Earth and Sky: Experiment with the ground and the sky by using water and watching to see what happens when it is where the sun shines down. Learn about erosion or follow the clouds as they move across thy sky. Observe the creatures that live in the air.
  9. Earth is our Home: Try using the sun to cook something by making a solar oven.
  10. Ecology: Learn how plants and animals live together in the environment. Check out the habitat of the wildlife in the park.
  11. Environment: Learn what you can do to help save the environment around the park. Check out the wildlife, the water, the plants and trees and find out what you can do to keep the park’s beauty all the time.

  13. Generations: Interview older citizens who know about the park. Ask the tour guide at the park for contacts. Learn about their habits, how they lived in earlier times and document your findings by writing them in a journal.
  14. Hiking: Pick a point from the park and plan a hike to the park just in time for lunch. Spend the rest of the day in the park learning about all it has to offer you.
  15. Indian Lore: Research the history of the Native American Paiutes who lived near the park. Tell about living conditions including their tribal government, religious beliefs and customs, clothing, transportation, crafts, food habits and games they played. 
  16. Languages and Customs:  Learn about the language and customs of the Paiute Indians who were residents of the area known as Tule Springs.
  17. Local Communities: Every community has a park and a story to tell. Learn about the people and events that helped make Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs a monument to our community.  Look in magazines, at Web sites, in newspapers and finally take a trip to the park.
  18. Mammals: Name at least two characteristics that distinguish these creatures from other animals. Research their natural habitat and include what they ate and how man affected their environment.
  19. Nature: Name three ways in which plants are important to animals as well as animals are important to plants. Identify at least two types of birds, insects and fish. Explain the term food chain and give an example of a four step food and a four step water chain.
  20. Outdoor Adventure: Make up a list of things to touch, smell and hear outside like something rough or smooth, something pine like or something moving. Then write down your observations.
  21. Photography: Take pictures of the different aspects of the park. Make a photo album and label each picture with something you remember about that particular part of the park
  22. Plants: Using a crayon and a piece of paper, place the paper on the bark of a tree or a leaf you like that you found on the ground and run the crayon over it. Do this with other plants in the park but do not destroy any of them. Frame your creations.
  23. Prints and Graphics: Find leaves or pieces of bark or other objects in the park.  Use ink pads to create an image or paint one side. Use paint, markers or colored pencils to complete your design. Make copies for your friends.
