Development Services Process

The city of Las Vegas is restructuring the development services process to more effectively meet the needs of our customers. The development services process includes the steps one must go through to obtain permits and other documents needed during the building and planning process. The city hired outside consultants, Kirchhoff & Associates, to conduct an analysis of the existing development services process. That analysis, along with the city's next steps in this ongoing process, can be found below.

The city has re-structured departments under a shared community of  interests for the purpose of  consolidating resources and achieving city goals and priorities in a more effective and efficient manner. 

The DSP Implementation Team is:

  • Executing a Strategic Management Plan, composed of five elements that are worked by a cross-functional team from the departments of Planning, Public Works, Building and Safety,  Fire & Rescue, Information Technologies and Administrative Services

  • FY 12-13 projects to improve processing times and customer service: 
    o Multi-jurisdictional licensing program
    o New business license online application
    o Rapid Resolution Team

    o Home Depot permit process
    o Special Events Permits on line
    o Credit card and electronic payments at all counters

  • Long-term initiatives for more comprehensive improvements to the Development Services Process:
    o Business process Re-engineering
    o Phased in technology upgrades for improved project management with emphasis on permitting, licensing and application systems, GIS, web solutions  and queuing and tracking
    o Infrastructure and Hardware Improvements
    o Improvements to and integration of customer online services
