Free Vision Forum At Las Vegas Senior Center March 6
No-Cost Basic Skills Workshops For Visually Impaired

Living as a blind or visually impaired person is such a challenge! How do you find where you’re going, achieve your potential, or complete your education? Join other visually impaired individuals, their families and those who serve them for a free one-day event with workshops on basic skills and a vendor area with high- and low-technology equipment and community resources. The ninth annual Vision Forum is scheduled for Thursday, March 6, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Las Vegas Senior Center, located at 451 E. Bonanza Road. The Technology Marketplace will be open from 8 to 10 a.m. in the adjacent Dula Gym, featuring vendors showing and selling the latest items and offering information on community resources.

Workshop topics will include sessions with:

  • Greg Smith of the Nevada Attorney General’s office, discussing their “hot topics,” fraud warnings, scams, common misrepresentations, actual cases, and how their office can assist.
  • Raquel O’Neill of the UNLV Disability Resource Center, discussing the varied challenges of vision loss; how reactions impact you, family and friends; real-life scenarios, their impacts and how they were handled.
  • An insurance specialist discussing what insurance does and does not cover in eye care and equipment and how to learn what expenses will be your responsibility when a procedure is done.

The event is sponsored by Blindconnect, the city of Las Vegas, Nevada Council of the Blind and the Veterans Administration Vision Program. Download the registration form and brochure at, register at the senior center, or call (702) 229-6454 to register by telephone. On-site registration opens at 8 a.m. March 6 at the senior center.
