Downtown Vacant House Fire Under Investigation
No One Was Injured During Incident

Las Vegas firefighters responded to 1721 Elm Ave. (Bruce Street and Stewart Avenue) at 4:11 a.m. Monday after a Metro Police officer on patrol noticed light smoke coming from the house.

Firefighters arrived a few minutes later and found a fire in a rear bedroom of the one story-wood frame house. Firefighters had the fire extinguished within a few minutes, and it was confined to the bedroom.

The house appears to be vacant and the utilities to the home are disconnected. It appears that homeless people might have been staying in the house. The house has been vacant for approximately two months according to neighbors.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and damage is estimated at $20,000.

There were no reported injuries.
