Electrical Short Sets Off Alarms In Stratosphere Tower
Tower Was Evacuated While Firefighters Checked It Out


Firefighters responded to the Stratosphere Hotel & Casino, 2000 Las Vegas Blvd. South at 12:51 Wednesday morning after smoke alarms activated in the tower on the fifth level.

At the same time, security and maintenance personnel from the Stratosphere also responded to the alarms.

An electrical short occurred between the fifth and sixth levels of the tower which is below the revolving restaurant.  Maintenance personnel found an electrical short in some wiring and extinguished it with a fire extinguisher.  Firefighters arrived a short time later and confirmed there was no fire extension.

Damage was minimal and was taken care of by maintenance.  Firefighters returned to service.  There were no injuries in connection with the incident.  All safety systems worked as they were designed for.
