Las Vegas City Council To Consider Leasing Space To Red Rock Search And Rescue
Council To Also Recognize Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Officer Killed In The Line Of Duty

The Las Vegas City Council will hear an item to approve a lease agreement for a new headquarters for the non-profit Red Rock Search and Rescue at the Wednesday, Sept. 18, City Council meeting that will begin at 9 a.m. in City Hall council chambers, located at 495 S. Main St.

If agenda item 19 is approved, Red Rock Search and Rescue will move into a former community school space located at 330 and 340 Villa Monterey Drive in Ward 2. Red Rock Search and Rescue is a non-profit, independent team of volunteers who serve Southern Nevada and portions of Utah and California. The group will pay the city a monthly rent of $150 if the item is approved.

In addition, Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman will honor Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue Officer David VanBuskirk, who died in the line of duty on July 22, 2013. Mayor Goodman will present the Medal of Honor, the highest recognition the city can give, to Officer VanBuskirk’s fellow search and rescue officers.

Also, Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow will recognize community members and non-profit groups for their assistance in reopening the newly renovated Lorenzi Park. The park now features remodeled twin lakes, a band shell, new playground equipment and a splash pad as well as a refurbished rose garden.

Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian will recognize local McDonald’s restaurants for providing free breakfast for students on the first day of school.

Finally, the City Council will also recognize the September Employee of the Month.
