Las Vegas City Council To Consider Allocating $1 Million In Grant Funds For Sidewalk Project
Council To Also Recognize Hispanic Heritage Month

The Las Vegas City Council will hear an item to approve a $1 million allocation of Community Development Block Grant funds to construct sidewalks in Ward 1 at the Wednesday, Sept. 4, City Council meeting that will begin following the 8:30 a.m. Redevelopment Agency meeting in City Hall council chambers, located at 495 S. Main St.

If agenda item 22 is approved, the funds will be used to repair existing sidewalks and bring them up to Americans with Disabilities Act standards, as well as adding new sidewalks to infill in areas that are lacking them. The project would take place in the area bounded by Charleston Boulevard, Sahara Avenue, Decatur Boulevard and Valley View Boulevard.

In addition, Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian and Councilman Bob Coffin will recognize members of the local Hispanic community as part of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations.

Mayor Pro Tem Stavros S. Anthony is scheduled to recognize the United States Tennis Association and efforts to offer free youth tennis lessons.

Finally, Councilwoman Tarkanian will recognize the September Citizens of the Month, and the City Council will also recognize the Employee of the Month.
