Judge Bert Brown Elected Las Vegas Municipal Court Chief Judge
Two-Year Term Begins July 1

The six Las Vegas Municipal Court judges have elected Judge Bert Brown as their new chief judge. His term as chief judge will begin July 1, 2013, and continue through June 30, 2015.
“I am so honored to be selected by my fellow judges to serve as the chief judge of the Las Vegas Municipal Court,” Brown said. “The staff and judges of our court are some of the most dedicated and hard-working people I have come to know. I hope to be able to continue and broaden the great work and accomplishments that Chief Judge Leung has been able to achieve these past two years.”

Current Chief Judge Cynthia Leung had announced that she would not seek re-election to the position.

“It has been a pleasure and a privilege to serve as chief judge,” Leung said. “The court has had a challenging two years, with the impact of the recession on our community and court, but we have worked together and I believe we have one of the most well-run courts in the state of Nevada.”
Brown was elected as Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge of Department 4, June 8, 1999, and was re-elected in 2003 and 2009. He previously served as chief judge of the Las Vegas Municipal Court from Oct. 24, 2007, to June 30, 2009. For more biographical information on Brown, visit the city of Las Vegas website.

The Las Vegas City Charter establishes a two-year term of office for the Las Vegas Municipal Court chief judge, with the current term expiring June 30, 2013.
