Celebrating Life! 2013 Free Fine Arts Competition
Residents Age 50+ Invited To Enter April 23-24


Each year the city of Las Vegas Arts Commission and the city of Las Vegas sponsor the “Celebrating Life!” fine arts competition to recognize the talents of local and regional artists. Clark, Esmeralda, Lincoln, Mineral and Nye County residents age 50 or better are invited to enter their original works in this 13th annual juried event. There is no fee to enter. A public reception and awards ceremony will be held on Friday, May 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, located at 800 S. Brush St. The exhibition will be displayed there May 24-July 13.

Artists may enter original works in the following fine art media categories: 

  • Drawing and Pastel
  • Mixed Media (2-D)
  • Painting
  • Sculpture and Ceramics (3-D)
  • Watercolor and Gouache
  • Photography.

The work must be ready for display, completed within the past three years, and not previously juried into a Celebrating Life! exhibit. Only one work per artist may be submitted. Entries will be accepted between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. April 23-24 at the Charleston Heights Arts Center. This year’s judges will be K.D. Matheson, Linda Alterwitz, and Lynda Whitehair.

Artists whose works are not selected for the Celebrating Life! 2013 exhibition will have the option to display their submissions in the Salon de Refusés exhibit in the Charleston Heights Arts Center Gallery. This exhibit will remain on display May 24-June 22. Award-winning pieces from the Celebrating Life! 2013 exhibit will travel to the City Hall Chamber Gallery for display July 25-Sept. 5.
