Dan Hicks began his music career in 1965 as the drummer for San Francisco rock band The Charlatans, before forming the acoustic ensemble Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks. From his first album, “Original Recordings” in 1969, to his latest in 2010, it’s been obvious he is a gifted musician and songwriter. To quote Daily Variety, “Dan Hicks is at the top of his game…unlike many pop artists today, a new studio album from Dan Hicks is like a new painting from Picasso.” His songwriting, blending of styles, masterful folk-swing guitar playing, and wry sense of humor made him a cultural icon, landing Hicks worldwide tours as well as three Rolling Stone magazine covers during his long career.
