Garage Fire Damages Northwest Las Vegas Home
Family of Four Are Displaced

Las Vegas fire investigators ruled a fire accidental that gutted a garage and destroyed two cars early Sunday afternoon.  A family of four is displaced because of the fire.  There were no reported injuries.

Las Vegas and North Las Vegas firefighters responded to 6052 Crystal Cascade Street at 3:01 p.m. Sunday after fire dispatchers received several 9-1-1 calls that the garage of a house was on fire.

When firefighters arrived heavy flames and smoke were showing from the garage of a two-story, wood frame/stucco house.  Firefighters had the fire out in less than 10 minutes. They were able to confine the fire to the garage and keep it from spreading to the living portion of the house.

The fire gutted the garage and destroyed two cars parked in the garage.  The interior of the home had minor smoke damage.  Damage was estimated at $60,000.

The occupant told fire investigators he was working on the electric fuel pump of the car in the garage.  Gasoline was leaking out of the pump, then it caught fire.  Everyone was able to escape without injury.

The American Red Cross is assisting the two adults and two small children that live in the house with temporary housing.
