KCLV To Air Special Performance From City’s Performing Arts Camp
Kuhusiani - “Ordinary Hearts, Extraordinary Minds” Airs This Weekend

KCLV Channel 2, the city’s government-access television station, will air the final musical production from the city’s Performing & Visual Arts Summer Camp beginning Friday. This is the second year KCLV has aired the performance from the Las Vegas – Clark County Library District, West Las Vegas Library Theatre.

The 100-minute production will air: 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22; 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23; and 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24.

Kuhusiani - “Ordinary Hearts, Extraordinary Minds” is the story of Maleek, a now troubled youth who is on the verge of being placed into the criminal justice system after a series of family and school disappointments. Maleek has determined that his road to success is to be a gangster rapper. His parents, though divorced, are unified in their belief that this sort of behavior is not a viable way to make a living and eventually support himself. He feels no one understands him. “What is a man to do?” This musical production delves into the hearts and minds of young people expressed through dance, music and spoken word based on their life experiences.

The summer camp is an intensive, eight-week, youth-development program that has been held annually at the West Las Vegas Arts Center. The camp offers young people, ages 10 to 15, the opportunity to acquire character-building life skills through a comprehensive, integrated arts program that includes study in dance, music, theatre performance and technology, graphic design, and film production. It requires dedication and commitment from the participants, all of whom are selected through an application and interview process.
