Family-Friendly Events Scheduled For City Of Las Vegas Parks Throughout July For National Parks and Recreation Month
Events Are A Partnership Between The City And The Outside Las Vegas Foundation

The city of Las Vegas will celebrate national Parks and Recreation Month in July by offering a number of activities for residents. Starting Wednesday, July 2, residents will be able to take an evening stroll or enjoy an activity at a city park while learning about park geography and biodiversity as well as the vast city trail system from Outside Las Vegas Foundation volunteers and staff. Five parks will host these weekly events, one in each city ward, as part of the events for National Park and Recreation Month.

Events are open to all, and with the exception of Family Fishing Night, are free to attend. Groups will gather at the Outside Las Vegas Foundation banner 15 minutes before the start of each event.

  • Charlie Kellogg and Joe Zaher Sports Complex, 7901 W. Washington Ave., July 9, 6:30-8 p.m.: Enjoy a leisurely hike through the park, check out the Bonanza Trail, and participate in an educational discussion about the parks and urban trails in Las Vegas.
  • Justice Myron E. Leavitt and Jaycee Community Park, East St. Louis and Eastern avenues, July 16, 6-7:30 p.m.: Staff will teach your family about biodiversity in the desert before taking you on a walk through this shaded city park.
  • Lorenzi Park, Washington Avenue and Twin Lakes Drive, July 22, 6-8 p.m.: Join us for Family Fishing Night with the Nevada Department of Wildlife. This fun event will bring the whole family together to learn how to fish. Children 11 and under fish for free. Children 12+ and adults need a fishing license. A one-day license is $9, or an annual license is $13 for ages 12-15 and $29 for ages 16 and up.
  • Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road, July 26, 9-11 a.m.: Learn about the wonderful world of birds during this family walk around this beautiful and historical park.
  • W. Wayne Bunker Family Park, Tenaya Way and Alexander Road, July 30, 7-8:30 p.m.: Learn about Nevada’s bats.  These misunderstood mammals have a fascinating story that will be shared while you observe them in the park.
