Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman Looks To The Future During Annual State Of The City Address
City Hosted Successful Live Twitter Feed For First Time During Event


       Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman delivered the annual State of the City address Thursday, Jan. 9, while the community followed along and participated via Twitter.

      During the address, which began at 5 p.m., the city had nearly 1,000 Twitter interactions by the end of the speech as the community gave feedback during the speech.

       Mayor Goodman focused on several areas as the city continues to work toward a better quality of life for residents, visitors and businesses. Some of the areas Mayor Goodman focused on included:
• Public safety and the need to approve funding for additional police officers on city streets;
• Continued development, business diversification and job creation;
• The need for a medical school in Southern Nevada;
• The need to continue to grow arts and cultural offerings;
• And a continued commitment to education and reaching children before they enter kindergarten.

       Mayor Goodman also highlighted several accomplishments in 2013 including the Life Is Beautiful music festival,’s arrival downtown, the opening of new businesses and the passage of film tax credits in Nevada in hopes of not losing movie productions to other states.

       The address will be rebroadcast on KCLV Channel 2, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11; at 10 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12; at 7 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13; at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14; and at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16. The address will also be available on the city’s Web site at
