Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman To Pay Off Heart Of Dallas Bowl Bet At Las Vegas City Council Meeting
City Council To Also Recognize The Employee Of The Year

Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman will wear a University of North Texas T-Shirt to pay off a bet with Denton, Texas Mayor Mark Burroughs at the Wednesday, Jan. 8, City Council meeting that will begin at 9 a.m. in City Hall council chambers, located at 495 S. Main St.

The mayors had bet on the Heart of Dallas Bowl that was won by the North Texas Mean Green 36-14 over the UNLV Rebels. Mayor Goodman has donated $100 to the North Texas athletic department and will wear the T-shirt at the council meeting, as part of the bet.

The Las Vegas City Council will also recognize Operations and Maintenance worker Leonard Shoemaker as the Employee of the Year for his work in being an ambassador to the public in city parks. Shoemaker has been with the city since 2005 and goes out of his way to ensure that the city’s parks are well maintained and that park visitors are treated with service and respect. Leonard always has time to listen to concerns and is the definition of a public servant.

In addition, Councilman Steven D. Ross will recognize the upcoming American Legion Warrior Appreciation Night. This annual event recognizes veterans, law enforcement officers and Medal of Honor recipients.

The City Council will also recognize human trafficking prevention efforts through a new documentary, Trafficked No More.

Finally, Ward 5 Councilman Ricki Y. Barlow will recognize the January 2014 Citizen of the Month.
