City Seeks Feedback On Walkable Community Plan For East Las Vegas
Residents Are Invited To Provide Feedback Via And Attend Neighborhood Meetings

The city of Las Vegas is in the initial stages of developing a Ward 3 Walkable Community Plan and seeks feedback from residents regarding what the plan should include. The plan area is centered in the southeast sector of the city near the intersection of Eastern and Sunrise avenues, with boundaries extending in an approximate one-half mile radius from this intersection (see map). The area includes several schools, parks and a mixture of commercial, single-family and multi-family residences. Residents and those who frequent the area are invited to view the plan and provide feedback online at Language selection is available for the entire site, including Spanish.

Walkable communities provide convenient walking access to schools, stores and civic amenities, reduce vehicle miles traveled, increase alternative transportation options, and increase health and social interaction. A walkable community plan provides recommendations for improvements that allow residents to easily and safely walk to community amenities and conduct normal daily activities. The plan provides a framework for establishing a safe and accessible network of community assets within a comfortable 10-minute walk from the center of the plan area. The plan will not change the zoning or property land-use designations, but will focus on physical improvements, such as crosswalk enhancements, upgrading sidewalks and adding shade trees.

In addition to gathering information via, the city also will be hosting four neighborhood meetings to gather community input, scheduled as follows:

  • Sept. 11, 6-7 p.m. at Chuck Minker Sports Complex, 275 N. Mojave Road;
  • Sept. 24, 6-7 p.m. at East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave;
  • Oct. 15, 6-7 p.m. at Howard Hollingsworth Elementary School, 1776 E. Ogden Ave.;
  • Oct. 23, 6-7 p.m. at Crestwood Elementary School, 1300 Pauline Way.

“We are hoping all the residents and business owners in this area will respond and tell us what they would like to see in the plan,” said Ward 3 Councilman Bob Coffin.  “We need their input to help re-create the neighborhoods they would like to live and walk in.”
