Northwest Las Vegas Apartment Damaged By Fire
Fire Investigators Rule Fire Accidental, Child Playing With Lighter

Las Vegas firefighters responded to the Willows at Town Center Apartments, 9145 Echelon Point Drive (Durango/CC-215) at 9:04  Friday evening after fire dispatchers received numerous calls that thick black smoke was coming out of an upstairs window of an apartment.

When firefighters arrived on scene, heavy flames were coming out the window. They were told that all the occupants of the apartment were out. Firefighters entered the apartment on the second floor of a two-story wood frame/stucco eight-unit apartment building to attack the fire. It took them only a few minutes to bring the blaze under control.

Firefighters were able to confine the fire to the one unit. No other apartments were damaged. Damage to the involved apartment was estimated at $50,000. The apartment sustained significant damage.

Fire investigators determined that a young child was playing with a lighter in one of two bedrooms and caught the mattress on fire. The fire was ruled accidental.

At least one adult and two children are displaced because of the fire. There were no reported injuries during the incident.
