Northwest Home Damaged By Fire
No One Was Home When The Fire Occurred

Las Vegas firefighters responded to a house fire at 8973 Hillsboro Creek Ct. (Gowen/Durango) at 1:30 Monday afternoon. Neighbors called after seeing smoke coming from the rear of the large two-story wood frame/stucco house.

When firefighters arrived, they had to force entry into the house. The fire was located around the fireplace in the family room in the rear of the house. The fire had burned up through the wall.

Fire investigators believe the fire slow burned for several hours before it broke a window out on the rear of the house permitting smoke to escape. That is when the neighbors noticed the smoke. The fire created intense heat and thick black smoke inside the house. The heat and smoke either damaged or destroyed nearly everything in the home. The fire caused an estimated $50,000 damage to the structure itself. All of the damage was confined to the fireplace. The fire was ruled accidental.

No one was home at the time of the fire. The family of four left earlier in the day to visit relatives for the holidays. Three pet cats were left inside the home, all died of smoke inhalation.

There were no reported injuries.
