Four People Suffer Smoke Inhalation During Apartment Fire
One Person Taken To The Hospital, Fire Ruled Accidental

Las Vegas and Clark County firefighters responded to the Sunrise Garden Apartments, 3601 El Conlin Ave. (Valley View/Sahara) at 2:49 p.m. Wednesday.  On arrival, smoke was showing from a downstairs apartment of a two-story wood frame/stucco apartment building.  Also a woman was seen lying on the floor of the breezeway between apartments.  Because the complex is made up of senior citizens, some of which have mobility issues, a second alarm was dispatched for extra personnel to assist with evacuation.

Firefighters entered the downstairs apartment and had the fire out in less than five minutes.  Damage was confined to the one unit.  A wall air conditioner, bed and nightstand  were destroyed by the fire.  The rest of the unit had moderate smoke damage.  No other units were damaged.  Damage was estimated at $10,500.

The fire was ruled accidental, undetermined.  The occupant told fire investigators that she was lighting incense on the nightstand when it caught fire and spread to the bed.  She tried to put the fire out but was unsuccessful and decided to leave when the unit started to fill with smoke.  She was later taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation.

Three other people were treated by paramedics on scene for smoke inhalation and released.

The American Red Cross is assisting the woman who lives in the damaged apartment.
