Two Alarm Fire In Senior Citizen Apartment Complex Ruled Accidental
A Dozen Seniors Are Evacuated From Building, No One Is Injured

A fire damaged an apartment at a senior citizen apartment complex Thursday afternoon.  Everyone in the building was able to evacuate without injury.

Las Vegas and Clark County firefighters responded to the Clark Tower Apartments at 2701 Clark Towers Court, Building C, at 2:19 p.m. Wednesday.  On arrival, smoke was showing from an upstairs apartment of a two-story wood frame apartment building

When firefighters entered the stairways to the second floor, one occupant in a wheelchair required assistance to evacuate from the building.  It was decided a second alarm was needed for additional personnel to help evacuate the building.

Firefighters entered the apartment that had the fire in it and put the fire out in less than a minute.

The apartment had minor fire and heat damage, a unit directly below had slight water damage.  Damage was estimated at $15,000.

The only occupant of the apartment that had the fire told fire investigators that the mattress caught fire and she tried to put it out but it continued to grow larger.  She was checked out by paramedics for potential smoke inhalation, but she refused treatment.

There were no injuries.  The fire was ruled accidental.
