Apartment Fire Ruled Accidental
Two Pet Dogs Died In Fire

Fire investigators have ruled a fire in an apartment this morning accidental. No one was home at the time of the fire. Two pet dogs that live in the apartment died during the small fire. There were no reported injuries.

Fire dispatchers received a number of calls at 8:49 a.m. that a window air conditioner was on fire in an apartment at 640 S. Martin L. King Blvd. (MLK/Alta). On arrival, firefighters entered the apartment and found the fire in a bedroom. The fire was extinguished in less than three minutes.

Damage from the fire was confined to the one bedroom. Damage was estimated at $10,000.

Fire investigators ruled the fire accidental, the result of careless smoking. Fire investigators believe the fire started on the bed and then moved into the air conditioner where passer-bys first noticed  the flames since no one was home.
