Now through Friday, June 1, traffic lane restrictions are in effect on Ann Road, between Tenaya Way and Decatur Boulevard. Inside lanes in both east and west directions of travel will be closed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., although the morning closure for the westbound lane will not occur until 9 a.m., due to rush hour traffic considerations. Closures will occur on Mondays through Thursdays, with some occasional closures on Fridays and the weekends.
The lane closures are required to allow for completion of work on median island improvements. The improvements will consist of decorative rock and boulder placement along with installation of metal sculptures of desert flora and fauna. This type of median island improvement project provides aesthetic improvements to the corridor, but with lower construction and maintenance costs, and without the utilization of irrigation water.
The city of Las Vegas Department of Operations and Maintenance is constructing the improvements, and the metal sculptures will be a mix of items procured from a private vendor, along with items constructed by city employees skilled in metal-work fabrication. A total of 12 median islands will be improved, with an estimated project cost of $80,000.
