Public Comment Sought On Brownfields Grant Application
City Seeking Funds To Assist With Possible Future Remediation


The Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency (RDA) is preparing an Environmental Protection Agency Brownfields Area-wide Assessment Grant application to address possible environmental concerns on eligible properties within the city’s Redevelopment Area.

The Las Vegas Redevelopment Area encompasses 3,948 acres. The area roughly includes the greater downtown Las Vegas area east of Interstate 15, south of Washington Avenue, north of Sahara Avenue and west of Maryland Parkway. It also includes the Charleston Boulevard, Martin L. King Boulevard and Eastern Avenue corridors.

Brownfields are defined by the federal government’s Environmental Protection Agency as “real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminant.”

The RDA is seeking information and public comments while preparing this application. Grant information and public comment forms will be available from Sept. 24 through Oct. 11, 2010 online at
