Facilitated by Victoria Gordon and Jocyelyn Wilson from Victory Missionary Baptist Church’s movement and sign ministries, the workshop will be held on Saturday, January 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 West Lake Mead Boulevard.

Participants are encouraged to dress in dance attire or wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Registration is now open for a fee of $5.  Call (702) 229-4800 for more information.

Two film series focusing on African-American issues take place in January. Alex Haley’s Emmy Award-winning and groundbreaking mini-series, “Roots,” will be shown on five successive Thursdays, beginning January 3 at 6:30 p.m. A series of recently released feature films begins Saturday, January 5, at 3 p.m. “In My Country,” starring Samuel L. Jackson and Juliette Binoche, focuses on South Africa’s post-apartheid Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s hearings. It will be followed by “The Long Run,” “Tsotsi,” “The Last King of Scotland,” “Amazing Grace,” and “Pursuit of Happyness.” All films are free.
